Loose Leash Walking
Teach your puppy to walk on a loose leash by using tab289's method. I love this guy. He has many videos on dog training on You Tube. He uses positive reinforcement training. He tells you why the method he uses will work and why other methods don't.
He uses a clicker for his "reward marker" or sound that you use repetitiously when the dog has done something correct. I use the word "YES" as I do not like to remember to carry the clicker. Either the clicker or the word "yes" work in your positive reinforcement training.
Keep in mind when you watch this video, that he is teaching "loose leash walking" or teaching the dog to walk with a loose leash besides you without pulling. The command "Heel" is a more stick to your side command that can be taught later.
You can start loose leash training when your pup is young, even at 8 weeks. Keep your training sessions short with young pups. Older pups and dogs can learn this command quickly. It certainly will make your walks much more enjoyable.
