Brenda Aloff- Positive Reinforcement Dog Training Author

Brenda Aloff has had the most influence on me when it comes to working and training dogs. She is a positive reinforcement trainer and specializes in dog behavioral issues. She has written the best books on dogs, dog psychology, dog behavioral issues and dog body language.

Her books are very technical but her solutions are excellent. She has a great book on puppy training and how to work on issues you might have acclimating your pup to your household.

Distractions, Maintaining Eye Contact and Ultimately Establising a Good "Come" or "Pay Attention"

You want your dog to think you are the center of his or her universe. You want a dog to pay attention to you if there are tons of distractions around and you want to keep him safe and secure. You want your dog to come to you on command. It all starts with working on Eye Contact. Here is Tab289's video on how to work on distractions with your dog. This is very important.

Teaching Your Puppy to Give You Eye Contact and To Pay Attention When His Name is Called- VERY IMPORTANT

Teaching your dog to come is the most difficult command to teach in my opinion. It takes repetition and commitment from you as the pup's owner. It starts by teaching the pup that when he hears his name, he knows that something great will happen. That greatness is a treat coming from you.

Teaching your dog to pay attention to you when his name is called requires teaching the pup to give you full eye contact. It is a simple thing to teach. Remember that you must become the center of the pup's world. He must believe that all good things (like food treats) come from you.

Dew Claw Removal- My Stand on This Issue

I have been breeding dogs for close to 20 years. I have never had the dew claws removed on my puppies. I have many potential buyers ask me if I remove them. I tell them I do not believe in the practice and I also share that I believe there is a physiological reason they are present on puppies.

LEAVE IT or OFF Command- One of the most important if not the MOST important command to teach your dog

This is the one of the two most important commands to teach your puppy or dog. The two commands of importance are "leave it or off" and "come". This training method can be used to teach the pup that you do not want him to touch something or you want him to leave it alone. That can be useful in many, many situations. In the house if the pup has accidentally picked up something you don't want him to have such as a shoe left on the floor or if you are out on a walk and he wants to pick up something or chase something, you have a tool to stop the behavior.

Housetraining Your New Pup Starts Here

Here is my go to guy, Tab 289. House training and potty training your pup starts immediately when you get home. You must be consistent, never punish or scold the pup. The pup will have accidents and you will have to accept that. The puppy has to be attended to every two to three hours when it comes home. If you follow this advice, you will get good results quickly.

Potty training 101 starts here. Watch this video.

I have had several requests for this letter and diagram. This is my letter I created for my clients to take to their groomers. How many times have some of you taken your doodle to a groomer and had it come back and look like a poodle.

I hope this helps you describe how you want your doodle to be trimmed. Go out to our Facebook page and "like" us and you will see the Groomer Diagram. Email me after you have liked us on Facebook and I will send you the letter and diagram.

Dear Groomer,

I am a Goldendoodle. I am a shaggy dog and would like a Goldendoodle clip. Here are my wishes:
